The Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH), in Toronto, Canada, is considered one of the top comprehensive cancer treatment and research centers in the world. PMH is the only facility in Canada devoted exclusively to cancer research, treatment and education. One of the pre-prototypes is being used to produce new information and publications to substantiate the technology’s benefits. The major scientific interest at PMH is to test the technology’s feasibility in monitoring the effects of minimally invasive therapy in prostate cancer. PMH’s work on phantoms and lab animals has produced positive correlations.

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, TX, has been the site of pre-prototype testing in phantoms and human subjects for proof of concept. The comparative results using the technology on three types of breast cancer tissues: mastectomy (the complete removal of the breast), lumpectomy (the removal of the lump and immediate surrounding tissue) and breast biopsy (a small needle sample of the suspected tissue) showed excellent correlation to other imaging modalities.

The University of Texas, Health Science Center, San Antonio, Cancer Therapy Research Center (CTRC), one of the leading cancer centers in Texas, is engaged in a study to provide further validation of the proof of concept in an effort to begin refining an instrument design for commercial applications.
